I've been interested in Anne Boleyn since 1972. I've read countless books on Anne, and I have a huge collection of not only history books, but novels dealing with Anne Boleyn and her life. In the Anne Boleyn Collection II: Anne Boleyn and the Boleyn Family, Ms. Ridgeway addresses many of the issues that have begun to be taken as the truth about Anne and her family, although many of them aren't based in truth and hard facts, but are speculations from a few historians and some authors, plus The Tudors television series. Ms. Ridgeway includes additional information, such as the chapter on the Butler family...Anne was at one time supposed to marry James Butler - if she did history might have been quite different! There is also additional information on Thomas and Elizabeth Boleyn, Anne's parents, and on her brother George. Ms. Ridgeway addresses some of the more peculiar theories, such as the deformed fetus Anne supposedly miscarried in 1536, and the supposed homosexuality of her brother George and the men who surrounded her, and "facts" put forward by another author that paint Anne as a debauched young girl sent to France for sexual peccadillos. I've read so many books on Anne Boleyn - I thought I knew it all but in this book I learned several things that I never knew before. This is an excellent book for anyone who is new to Tudor history, or has gotten their ideas about Anne Boleyn and those who surrounded her from novels or The Tudors show. It's also a great read for those of us who have been fascinated by Anne Boleyn and want to learn more about her. I highly recommend it.,

I believe the author, Claire Ridgway, did a wonderful job writing the book. She presented the material in a logical (actually a scientific) way by supporting what she wrote using documents that were written during the time of Ann and her family's lives. As a result of reading this book, I have changed my mind about who Ann was as a person - not the awful person she has been presented as in previous books. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is interested in knowing who Ann Boleyn really was as a person of history.

This was very informative reading about the late queen and her family. And it teaches you in a big way that so much we've seen, heard, and read elsewhere may not necessarily be factual, or even based on real facts. I think anyone reading this will be encouraged to think a lot more about the things they may have read about the queen and her family.

As an entertainer that gets to portray Queen Anne, I found this book enlightening! Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to this exciting moment in history. I love to say it is truly hard to express what went on with these extraordinary people during this time...We weren't there and due to greed, fear or jealousy; works, writings, letters and portraits were lost or destroyed because of this delicate yet turbulent time.

Thank you again for your work.

All the facts backed up by research. She gets a little tiresome with the complaints about fiction being off the mark. If it weren't for The Tudors having a gorgeous and talented cast (and racier story) I wouldn't have been interested in the truth. The Other Boleyn Girl made me want to find out more about Mary Boleyn. As long as a book is fiction, or you're watching a Showtime series, it is useful in getting people interested in history. Ms. Ridgway has done an incredible amount of research, and if it weren't for the "mine's better than yours" tone of this book, I'd have enjoyed it much more.

I love this collection of Claire's essays. as I'm reading it's almost as if your sitting and having tea or coffee with her as she is explaining her point of view throughout the book. I love learning all I can about Anne and this book added some more details I was unsure about or didn't know about the family. One of the most interesting chapters I think was about lady Jane and her role in Anne and George's downfall.

Can't wait to read the next book!!

Claire Ridgway has dug deep into the historical evidences in the case of Anne Boleyn and her family. While the writing is in a blog format instead of a smoothly stylized story format it is very readable. It is well documented with accompanying bibliography attached to each chapter. If you are a Tutor fan and want an even-handed approach to the story is can be told today, this author is for you.

This book was actually historical about Anne Boleyn and her family. Thomas was not a horrible self-serving father, her mother not unfeeling, her brother George, not a sexual deviant, and Mary remains a mystery. The author also tells you places to see if you plan to visit England and explains how some sites have been revamped or all together gone. It's also nice to know that since 1850, descendants from Anne have sent red red roses to her gravesite.

I received an ARC from Claire for this book in return for an honest review.

As per usual, Claire Ridgway has done her homework. This book is a detailed set of chapters where she discusses some of the various myths and rumours that have grown up around the Boleyns over the years. Claire agrees with some and dismisses others but does so politely and effectively. Where Claire disagrees with the theories of others she does so with reasoned argument. She also provides a detailed reading list so that readers can look up the sources and more recent works for themselves to make up their own minds.

There are detailed family trees and a considerable period of work has gone into providing all this information - I hadn't known that the Boleyns apparently descended from the Counts of Boulogne!

A number of pictures are included such as the brass commemorating Thomas Boleyn, various photographs taken in and around the Tower of London and photographs of churches in which members of the extended family were buried.

Claire also discusses the depictions of various Tudor personalities in modern television and film such as Philippa Gregory's 'The Other Boleyn Girl, and 'The Tudors'. She acknowledges that the depiction of Jane Rochford in the Tower during her imprisonment in 1542 was more accurate - and I also believe that the actress who played Jane (Joanne King) gave a superb performance of this much maligned individual - than many people might have thought. Jane Rochford is usually depicted as a fairly nasty and vindictive person whereas Joanne portrayed her as a more sympathetic character.

Whether you agree with Claire's thoughts and opinions on Tudor personalities and/or authors who have discussed them ever since - or not! - this book is one that should not be ignored.

Before I begin my review, I must say that I received an ARC for free from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I have enjoyed reading various articles written by Claire Ridgway on her website 'The Anne Boleyn files' and therefore, I was excited about reading this collection - I wasn't disappointed! I loved the way that it was written, very down to earth and too the point, which proved a very easy read. Additionally, I liked the manner in which that Ridway's research contributes to an extremely detailed history of Anne. Written in a chronological manner, it was nice to plot Anne's history but Ridgway often explained different elements of Anne's life - for example, she explained more about Tudor miscarriages than I have read before. My only change that I would make is that I would have liked the information about the Boleyn family near the beginning to the week rather than the end.
